| What
is a Hygienist? Hygienists are qualified registered
professionals who are specially trained to treat gum disease and to practice preventative
aspects of dentistry, including the scaling and polishing of all teeth, instruction
in oral hygiene measures, dietary advice and treating gum disease.
Why is Dental Hygienist treatment important? The majority of the adult
population can suffer from gum disease at any stage in their lives, which if left
untreated could lead to tooth loss. The only reliable method of controlling
gum disease is the regular removal of plaque. You can remove plaque deposits yourself
using an efficient brushing method and daily flossing routine. However,
if you have tartar (or calculus) and staining of the teeth, this cannot be removed
with normal brushing and needs to be professionally removed by a dental hygienist.
Signs of gum disease: Bleeding
gums Red puffy gums Loose teeth Bad breath
Can gum disease be treated? YES, in
most cases very successfully. | |
What will happen on my first visit? Initial records
will be taken on the state of your gum condition and the level of Oral Hygiene.
The treatment requested by your Dentist will then be carried out. You
will then be sent for regular recall appointments every 3 to 12 months depending
on your individual requirements. How long will it take and what costs
are involved? Your first visit can take 30 minutes and cost £49.50
If you require additional visits, your hygienist will advise you in the number
of visits that you require depending on your oral hygiene and gum condition.
Each visit can last 30 mins. Fees are charged at £49.50 per visit.
Note: A fee of £60 will be charged for all failed appointments and for
appointments cancelled without 24 hours notice. All treatment carried out
by the Hygienist is by referral only, unless prior arrangements have been discussed
with the Dentist. If there are any further questions please discuss these
with the Dentist. |
